New COO to Expand Horizons

17 March 15

Queensland’s largest social and affordable housing provider, Horizon Housing, has grown its team with the appointment of its new Chief Operating Officer (COO), Samantha Evans, announced this week.

Ms. Evans joins Horizon with nearly 20 years’ experience in the housing sector both internationally and in Australia. Working in the housing association sector in the UK, Evans headed up the Research and Innovation division of the Housing Corporation before moving to Australia to take up the COO role at Brisbane Housing.

Also working with Queensland Department of Housing and Public Works, and the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute during her career, Ms. Evans says she is on board to help strengthen Horizon’s operational performance while building capacity within the company to take on new opportunities.

“Horizon Housing already has a strong track record for innovation and has grown the business in both scale and capability,” Ms. Evans said. “I hope to work with the team to ensure we’ll be best positioned to capitalise on new opportunities while strengthening the outcomes for our tenants and supporting the communities in which they live.”

“I want to enhance the service that we provide to our owners and tenants while building the capacity of the company to do more not only in Queensland but nationwide,” she said.

Horizon Housing believes every person, despite their personal circumstances, deserves a suitable and safe home and CEO, Jason Cubit, says welcoming Ms. Evans to the team is part of a wider strategy to make this belief a reality for more Australians.

Horizon Housing is in the midst of a surge in growth as affordable housing increases in importance to the property market, enabling those who may not have been able to purchase a property to own their own homes or investments.

Over the last eight years, Horizon’s housing portfolio has increased by more than 700% and its staffing numbers by more than 600% making it the largest Queensland based social and affordable housing provider.

“Horizon Housing is continuing to grow our vision and our reach to bring affordable accommodation to all Australians,” Mr. Cubit said. “We have established ourselves as Queensland’s leading social and affordable housing provider and have begun to expand our operations with developments in Northern New South Wales.”

“Welcoming Sam to the team with her years’ of experience in asset management, tenancy management and property development as well as working in partnership with all levels of government to support the delivery of high quality, affordable housing will help strengthen our foundations to push farther afield into other states,” he said.
