Ross Street, Miles

Ross Street

Miles 4415 Queensland

Working with the Western Downs Housing Trust, this project sees Horizon Housing engaged in a Development Management role to deliver fourteen affordable townhouses for key workers in Miles, Queensland.

Recent and considerable investment in Coal Mining and Coal Seam Gas extraction within the Western Downs Region and other parts of Queensland has contributed to an increased population and demand for housing. This has resulted in rapid escalation of house purchase and rental prices in the region, impacting on the retention of existing residents and key workers. Western Downs Regional Council recognised this need for more affordable housing and subsequently developed a strategy aimed at mitigating impacts on housing affordability, through the establishment of the Western Downs Housing Trust and a public fund.

The vacant land located at Ross Street, Miles, was elected as a potential development site by the Western Downs Housing Trust, to help alleviate housing stress for Key Workers within the Miles area. Following a site investigation and project feasibility, Horizon Housing have assumed a development, management role for the project to ensure its successful and swift delivery.

Proposed to deliver 2 x one bedroom, 6 x two bedroom and 6 x three bedroom townhouses on the site, the properties will be targeted at local residents and key workers in the Miles area, who have been priced out of the housing market. Owing to the severity of the housing need in the area, the Ross Street Affordable Housing project will be delivered as quickly as possible. The project will be fully-funded by the Western Downs Housing Trust, who will retain ownership of the dwellings once completed.
