Horizon Housing Completes Demonstration Project for Logan

19 June 13

The first development to be built under the new Logan Central Draft Masterplan (LCDMP) - called Tallowwood on North - has been completed by Horizon Housing (HH) this week.

The LCDMP sets guidelines for the creation of more high standard affordable homes throughout Logan City, with Tallowwood on North to be used as a demonstration project.

Tallowwood on North was officially opened today (TBA) by Ministers (INSERT, TBA), Logan City Mayor Pam Parker and Deputy Mayor Russell Lutton, along with HH Chairman Nino DiMarco.

The building - which comprises six one, two and three bedroom affordable apartments, will soon be home to its first tenants - with two of the apartments to be retained by HH and leased at 25 per cent below market rent.

The remaining four apartments have been placed on the market with prices starting from just $237,500 - presenting a rare opportunity for investors and entry level buyers to secure a brand new, contemporary apartment in Logan Central.

HH Chief Executive Officer Jason Cubit said that the completion of Tallowwood on time and on budget was a great coup for the company and wider community.

"Tallowwood is a model project for affordable housing in many ways. The fact that it took less than six months to gain approvals and develop a project of this calibre is a credit not only to our team but also Logan City Council and the Federal Government for supporting affordable housing initiatives with funding from their Liveable Cities Program," he said.

"Tallowwood demonstrates that targeted funding for affordable housing can translate into high quality product which delivers real benefits for those who are finding it difficult to get into the property market or afford market rent.

"There is a distinct shortage of contemporary, affordable apartments in Logan Central close to shops, schools, transport and employment opportunities, so Tallowwood bridges that gap in the market.

"This is HH's first major project in the Logan region - adding to a portfolio of more than 1600 homes throughout the state - and we are confident that we have set a solid benchmark for growth and continued work with Council and the local community to provide additional affordable housing projects and services."
